Biography:
Wenceslaus Hollar was born in Prague and initially trained in Merian’s workshop in Frankfurt. After meeting the Earl of Arundel in 1863, Hollar joined his new acquaintance on a diplomatic journey across Europe and then returned to England with him. With the exception of an eight year stay in Antwerp and a yearlong trip to Tangier, he lived in England for the rest of his life. He was a successful draughtsman and etcher who was known for his views of London before the Great Fire of 1666.
