Biography: Sometimes known as Giorgio da Castelfranco or Giorgio Barbarelli, Giorgione’s talents expanded from painting to music and poetry. Although his frescoes did not survive, some small paintings of biblical and political figures are what his reputation is based on today. He learned how to paint figures and landscapes from Bellini, and was a mentor to Titian. Although Giorgione’s life was cut short by the plague, his work placed him as one of the leading artists of the early sixteenth century.
